The Best Performance by all of the 25 carefully researched bands that I saw at Canadian Music Week was by King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard! And believe me, that’s high praise, I saw some tremendous bands this year! King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard are a psychedelic surf band from down under! Carlton, Australia to be exact (a city that I’ve actually visited).

The 7-piece King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard is armed with double drum sets, a harmonica, guitars, and a lead singer who transforms his body into a psychedelicasaurus while singing / eating his microphone.

Their 2nd of 3 shows at CMW took place at 4:20pm inside The Horseshoe Tavern. They started it off with their 16 min song, “Head On/Pill” (posted below).  The Song explodes at the 3:24 min mark.

Their set was about 3 or 4 songs that spanned about 40 minutes. 40 glorious minutes that made me really appreciate being at the front of their stage. The crowd went absolutely ballistic between and during each song and for good reason! Their music was a delivered with precision that provided a roller coaster ride that made us all want to ride again and again. Members of the band all interacted with each other at different times while performing. You could sense a very positive / cohesive relationship between them all.

There were moments during the show that actually made me get a little emotional. It really made me think about how music can really be so beautiful and moving no matter what the genre.

“They’re a band that I would actually follow around in order to see all their shows”

After their performance I was in complete shock. I just stood there wishing for more. I turned to my friend Sarah and noticed she was just as affected as I was. We both couldn’t believe what we just experienced. I said to her, “They’re a band that I would actually follow around in order to see all their shows”. She agreed.

We both will be making every effort to see King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard again in the future and I fully hope you do too!

Oh yeah, and they should get an award for best band name!
