We’re excited to be exclusively premiering IBEN’s new track ‘NEEMA’ today on Indie Underground!
Years ago I knew IBEN from YouTube as a vlogger and product reviewer. She has amazing style – a mix of sleek Scandinavian basics and British Street style, IBEN definitely stands out! She’d mention periodically on her channel that she sang and would do performances. Nowadays I follow her on on Instagram and was excited to see that she’d released her first debut track ‘Tell Me’ (listen lower in article) – I immediately bought it on iTunes (and couldn’t get the song out of my head.) Her voice is just incredible – the song has an awesome middle breakdown which confirms it to be one of the best tracks I’ve heard this year.
IBEN’s follow-up track ‘NEEMA’ is more pop-oriented and true to the genre, but just as unique in sound. IBEN has an incredible future in music ahead of her, and we’ve quickly become fans here at Indie Underground.
I also had the chance to find out what IBEN’s inspiration was for ‘NEEMA’. Find out the answer, plus much more in the interview after you press play on ‘NEEMA’ below!
Kelli: How did you come to the decision to move from Denmark to the UK?
IBEN: I moved to the UK in 2013 to study music. I felt a bit burned out back home and needed to see and do something different. I’ve been singing since I was 7, and I knew it was what I wanted to do – but I needed to take it to the next level.
Kelli: What was the inspiration for the track ‘NEEMA’?
IBEN: I started writing my own music a couple of years ago. The first song I ever wrote was ‘NEEMA’, which is why I’m so keen to release the track, it means a lot to me. I realize that I’ve probably already evolved from that period of my life but it was still the beginning of everything and the beginning of me finally finding myself.
Kelli: Who are some of your musical influences?
IBEN: I think it’s quite obvious in my music that I’m very inspired by the 80’s. Michael Jackson is my hero, both as a singer and as a writer. His voice and vocal arrangements is amazing, and of course his songs were perfection. But I also love Bjork, Kimbra, Kanye West, Christine & The Queens and St. Vincent (just to mention a few) so it’s safe to say that I’m inspired by all kinds of music. As long as it’s got soul I’m here for it.
