I was heading back to my room at U of T after seeing the first eight bands on my schedule at North By Northeast (NXNE) when I heard some brilliant shoegaze-y sounding music bellowing down the stairway and out the door of The Silver Dollar Room. I couldn’t just walk by so I did what any sane person would do after 2am. Go inside the bar, show my media pass to let me in, grab a drink and take in the music!

When I went upstairs I found out that the band that was playing was B-17. A Toronto band that was on my NXNE radar, but one I didn’t think I’d be able to see with my packed schedule. Well thank God I did as B-17’s live performance was so satisfying. Their music kept my ears eagerly wanting more and my eyes were peeled as their on-stage presence was articulated with electric purpose and emotion. By the end of the show, both electric guitar players were on the floor, one on his back the other on his stomach, drenched in sweat from giving the crowd everything they had. The crowd reciprocated with hearty cheers.

Listen to the other 4 tracks from B-17’s most recent release via Optical Sounds with an option to purchase the album here.
