After a long two years (to the day!), the Canadian band is introducing its fourth studio album Morning Report. The growth from the success of High Noon, which landed the band a #1 spot on the Canadian iTunes chart, a certified Gold record and a 2015 JUNO Award for the Best Group and Best Rock Album is evident from start to finish on their new album.

Morning Report was born from the band’s day-to-day experiences and influenced by today’s greats in pop and rock & roll. It’s based on some no-emotions-left-behind recaps of the night before. That’s where the title Morning Report comes from.

The band took advantage of all the different talent that’s out there for this new record. They cited influences that you may not think of when you think Canadian Indie Rock, but that’s what makes the album so special. They also worked with four talented producers including Joe Chiccarelli who worked with the Killers. (Note: the track “Making Due” has an amazing Brandon Flowers-esq vibe to it).

As proud Ontarians, Arkells always make mention to their home town or province in their songs. If you remember the up-beat track from Michigan Left, “Where U Goin?” that gets you from Hamilton to Sarnia quicker (and catchier) than any GPS can. Morning Report is no different! The album starts out with a head-bopping tale of meeting Drake’s dad at a bar in Memphis. Yes, that Drake. Arkells, you da best! The song is called “Drake’s Dad” and the music video actually features him! Watch the video below.

“Private School” was the first song released off the new album. This song was the perfect introduction to what Morning Report was all about- adventure. Not only was the song a hit, but the Arkells used it to bring the “Arkellian” community together, sort of the opposite of the stereotypical inclusive nature of private schools. Arkells created their very own private school for fans to join called Arkells Collegiate Vocational Institute (ACVI). You can sign up on their website and you might be lucky enough to get mailed an official student card. These cards can get you into secret intimate shows, into bars as a second piece of ID and even out of speeding tickets! Arkells’ social channels are filled with amazing ACVI student stories, be sure to click them from the bottom of this post.
