Come to Rum Runners on Friday, March 27th to experience a special edition of #TheLateShow at Rum Runners inside London Music Hall curated by me, Aaron McMillan of Indie Underground. Presented by Summercamp Productions, London Music Hall and Budweiser Music.

Headlining this diversely intriguing three-band bill is Alt Folk Rock outfit, Mountain of Wolves. The six-piece band has been turning heads and getting a healthy amount of attention since playing Out Of Sound’s Winter Spectacular Festival in London in late December 2014. This show is a somewhat homecoming for the band, as they’ve played a bunch of shows lately outside of their hometown of London, ON.

CHRW-Radio-WesternHear a live preview of Mountain of Wolves!
Mountain of Wolves visited Indie Underground’s bi-weekly radio show, Ready, Set Radio! on 94.9 CHRW on March 21st and played four fantastic live-to-air songs. Listen to Show 20 – Mar 21, 2015.

I had the pleasure of seeing explosive three-piece band, Nancy Pants (Garage-Rock / Lo-Fi from Montreal) in January when they took part in The Silver Dollar Room’s Class Of 2015/16 showcase (with BB Guns). I immediately knew I had to book them after their tight, on-stage performance that night.

The third band (and equally good to the other two bands) is The Muscadettes. Lead by Twin sisters, Chantal and Kathleen Ambridge, the five-piece play an impressive bundle of hard-hitting garage-rock / 60s inspired music. Having The Muscadettes included this show is really the sugary icing on-top. Just make sure you get to Rum Runners early, as this dessert is served first!

Aaron of Indie Underground (that’s me) will be DJing between sets and after the show to provide the indie / alternative dance party (as per usual)!

Mountain of Wolves

(London, ON)
Genre: Alt Folk Rock

LondonFUSE writes: “The music itself unconventionally combines the genres of folk, rock, and country, creating a unique and immersive sound that intrigues the listener and begs contemplation. Songs are characterized by a slew of uncommon instruments like an accordion, banjo, lap steel, and mandolin, which contributes to the intricate and individual nature of each tune. MOW said their music is influenced largely by solitude and nature as well as consistent personal reading lists where the literary lyricism comes through with force upon listening. Further, their sound could be aligned with old time folk, Johnny Cash-esque trappings but more modern inspirations include Conor Oberst, Modest Mouse, Alt J, and perhaps the most prevalent, Ariana Grande, of course.”

Nancy Pants

(Montreal, QC)
Genre: Garage-Rock / Lo-Fi

Pop Montreal writes: “Nancy Pants is a loud and dirty pop three piece from Montreal. The band features Ohara Hale (Mori, Ohara) on lead vocals and guitar, Adam Waito (Adam & The Amethysts, Silverkeys, Miracle Fortress) on bass and vocals, and Jeremy McCuish (Parlovr, Nanimal, Smokes) on drums. Conceived by Hale and Waito on a road trip to an indie comic book convention in 2014 (the two musicians also double as illustrators), they recruited Jeremy and recorded their lo-fi 5-song demo on Waito’s iPhone after only one band practice, which they released online the next day and immediately followed with a few DIY music videos. Their highly spontaneous “don’t overthink anything” approach to music-making has yielded a modest catalogue of rough and dirty pop songs that are as sincere as they are playful. Sonically, they evoke teenage ’60s garage pop and weird ’90s punk, pitting Hale’s elastic vocals against McCuish’s bombastic drumming and Waito’s fuzzed-out bass.”

The Muscadettes

(Montreal, QC)
Genre: Garage-Rock / ’60s

Exclaim writes: “Featuring the core duo of twin sisters Chantal and Kathleen Ambridge, the project deliver reverb-drenched six-stringing, crashing drums and fuzz- and candy-coated vocal harmonies akin to early Best Coast recordings. Though we’re still coping with a chilly winter, The Muscadettes may just have given you the first song to put onto your summer beach party playlist.”
