Rum Runners – Friday, Nov 25

It’s no secret that Indie Underground has long admired the still very new electro-pop duo, West Nile. With their well-received 2015 album ‘S/T’ that dances between dreamy melodies and dangerously flammable choruses (all written and produced by the band), and their mysteriously alluring, yet diverse personalities, we thought it would be a great idea to see if could get to know Kit and EL-DC of West Nile a little better (and maybe get an inside look at the vibe of music they’re working on) by having them curate a Spotify Playlist before their show at Rum Runners this Friday night, Nov 25th when they share the stage with Toronto acts / sultry headliner, Blaise Moore, Locals X Only and Savannah Ré who all play a deadly variety of trip-hop, R&B and alternative pop (see show details).

Thankfully, the London, ON two-some had a little time in-between working on new music and playing shows to put together an eclectic musical story by using Spotify and personal commentary (see track comments below) that delivers an inside look of what feeds EL-DC and Kit and their personal music preferences, musical tastes. See  many of their favourite tracks below, plus many tracks we haven’t even heard of, but we’re glad we know them now! Make sure you don’t miss songs by Jacqueline Taieb, ABRA, MSTRKRFT, Sibylle Baier, G-Easy and many more!

Here’s what Kit and EL-DC had to say about some of the songs that they chose…
  • Song 1: E-40 – ‘CHOICES’ (Whenever we’re together we listen to E-40. – EL-DC)
  • Song 2: SPARKS – ‘SHERLOCK HOLMES’ (We love Sparks! So dreamy. – Kit)
  • Song 4: ABRA – ‘PULL UP’ (I love everything Awful Records puts out and Abra’s latest is no exception. – EL-DC)
  • Song 6: MSTRKRFT – ‘RUNAWAY’ (What planet am I on? – EL-DC)
  • Song 8: DANZIG – SHE RIDES (The perfect pole-dancing song. – Kit)
  • Song 10: HAMMERFALL – ‘THE DRAGON LIES BLEEDING’ (Another standard when we’re together. – EL-DC & Kit)
  • Song 13: DEAD BOYS – ‘AINT IT FUN’ (Like smoking cigarettes in the bathtub. – Kit)
  • Song 15: D.R.A.M. – ‘CUTE’ (If you have a crush, send em this song. It works. – Kit )
  • Song 16: DAVID BOWIE – FIVE YEARS (We’re all going to die. So do the thing you are afraid of doing. – Kit)
  • Song 17: PRAYERS – ‘FROM DOG TO GOD’ (Kindred spirits. – EL-DC)
  • Song 19: G EAZY – ‘I MEAN IT’ – (Pretty much my life right now. – EL-DC)
  • Song 20: TALK TALK – ‘I BELIEVE IN YOU’ (This song helped when I needed it the most.– EL-DC)

Note: Kit vetoed EL-DC’s AC/DC pick and EL- DC vetoed Kit’s Springsteen pick.
