Listening to this artist makes you feel like you’re falling down the rabbit hole straight into Wonderland. From the City of Montreal, Quebec, Max T is an experimental pop/indie musician that presents our ears with something that they’ve never quite heard before; a wistful, airy, adventurous sound paired with lyrics that have a complex underlying meaning relating to the anxieties of getting older and grasping on to youth for as long as you can. Using electronic music, harmony-rich indie, and kitsch samples while repurposing existing sounds, each song brings you to a magical place that only exists within your own dreams.‘Palm Isle’, Max T’s new, EP (pictured in photo above) released on March 24th off of an Indiana-based label, Winspear, contains 5 completely unique tunes that are sure to keep you awe-struck.
Track 3 off of the album, ‘Palm Isle’ begins with a pairing of chime-like sounds that flow throughout the entire span of the song and are soon joined with a soft vocal that uncovers the complex lyrical theme of not quite belonging in a place that most people see as a sort of utopia. Directed by Aaliyeh Afshar and Max Taeuschel, the music video for this track shows hazy clips of beautiful, tropical places with Max T standing in the center of each.
“The song is about idealizing a utopic place as a way to escape, and how that’s sorta flawed,” says Max T. “Working with glistening sounds, I wanted the song to feel like entering a wistful, nostalgic dream. With the video, we really wanted to re-create this dreamy place and mood, but show how I don’t quite fit within it.” tweet
