The City of Hamilton, Ontario has graced us with an innovative, thought provoking, storytelling musician. moon:and:6, otherwise known as Michael Chambers, is a multi-instrumentalist and producer who has been completely intrigued with space travel since he was a kid.
moon:and:6 just released the second single off of his debut album ‘A Brief History of American Space Travel’. The first single ‘Welcome to Space’ introduces Chambers’ meticulous attention to detail perfectly, opening up with an experimental electronic mix (listen lower in the article). ‘Apollo-Soyuz’, the second single, brings forth a sort of “calm before the storm” feeling with montages of monologues that overlay a dream-like piano melody; making you feel like you’re on the other end of a NASA radio call. The inspiration behind this record was The Apollo-Soyuz Test Project which Michael defines below.
“The Apollo-Soyuz Test Project, conducted in July 1975, was the first joint U.S.-Soviet space flight. The event symbolized the slow and gradual easing of political tensions between the two superpowers.” tweet
The sign of a great storyteller is when they can hypnotize you right from the beginning and bring you to a time and place that you’ve never been to before. moon:and:6 has created a music video that incorporates the classical elements of water, air, fire, and earth to symbolize these opposing forces finally joining together. These beautiful visuals are portrayed in black and white and resemble modern art in and of themselves. moon:and:6 is described as…
“The music is infused with French downtempo, 1990s post-rock and the experimental nature of mad men like Brian Eno and Steve Reich.” tweet

Not only is this album bringing the story to life, but it makes us realize that we are a part of something so much bigger than ourselves. Artists who can create contemporary concept albums that project controversial and meaningful moments in the world, as well as raise existential thoughts, are the artists doing something right.
Now have a listen to the first track ‘Welcome to Space’, a tune that is sure to bring you along for a captivating ride. This track has an upbeat tempo and captures the theme of the album as a whole.
