Mathew V., a Vancouver citizen, has just released his newest album, The Outer Circle. The album is a compilation of tracks that tell his life narrative.
He found inspiration when he reflected on his move to London, England, at age 17. In London, he developed his unique sound by combining his ten years of classical operatic voice training with a more modern atmosphere.
The songs on the collection are calm and soft, with great vocals that instill a feeling of security while also conjuring up images of a fabulous autumn day.
“Badly,” which features a strong drum beat and a simple but powerful guitar influenced by Ed Sheeran’s “Castle on the Hill,” is a highlight song.
On the other hand, “Halo,” is on the opposite side of the scale. This R&B slow jam is about a relationship that has ended and how one is doing well now that they are separated,
Musically, it’s a throwback to early-2010s pop, with soft vocals a la Sam Smith. The CD tells the story of a phoenix emerging from the embers of a previous life.
It’s music for those who may have struggled to find themselves but now feel at ease in their skin.
