The album is appropriately named Softy since it seeps into the eardrums and cuddles over you like a puffy blanket.
The EP’s simple accompaniment of vocals, guitar, and bass is combined with hip-hop style drumming to “produce an infinite repeat of emotionally loaded, feel-good tunes that are certain to become stuck in your mind,” according to Ivytide’s press.
Although the lyrics are gently spoken, they have a conversational feel to them. It is as if Ivytide is quietly conversing with us about their new relationship, from the delight to the worry.
With its vitality, fragility, closeness, and compassion, softy defines bedroom music.
“Call It What You Want” and “Text Me When You Get Home” were considered as good on a softy.
“Call It What U Want” is probably the EP’s most energetic song.
The song begins with heavily picked guitar notes, indicating the musician’s nervousness as he waits for a beloved to declare whether or not they are in a relationship — or, if not, to name it whatever they want, be unambiguous.
The vocalist grapples with the reality that they are happy to be spending time with this individual. Yet, the tension of uncertainty is becoming intolerable, as the music contrasts this worry with joyful tunes.
