Philip Jonathan’s second single, “I, Hope,” captivates new music from the Northumberland-based artist. A stunning opening amidst luscious vocals is composed of gentle piano flourishes amidst dripping acoustics.

With heightened vehemence within the music, the “I was raised” vocal rise sends goosebumps.

He then repeats, “Where shall I go?” followed by powerful string pulsations. Philip Jonathan’s “I, Hope” is an exciting accomplishment, with the author citing early Ben Howard as a source of inspiration.

Below, Jonathan goes into detail about the song:

‘I, Hope’ is a track that envisions optimism as a person, recounting the tale of someone’s sorrow through the eyes of hope. He says that he got the inspiration for this music after reading C.S. Lewis’ The Screwtape Letters, which gives insight into personal demons.

Philip pondered what hope would say to us if it were a human with whom we were in a connection – might it provide hollow or shallow platitudes?

Would it be unpleasant if (and when) we let ourselves down?

“Would it say something different?”

“I, Hope” and other outstanding music from this month may be found on Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of July 2021’ Spotify playlist, which is still being updated.

The song is also included in the best-of Spotify collection Emerging Indie Folk, predicated on a style.
