The Slaight Family, Polaris Heritage Prize, announced the 2021 candidates. Cadence Weapon was awarded the Polaris Music Prize for 2021 because of his outstanding album called “Parallel Worlds”. The voting for the candidates of the Slaight Family Polaris heritage for 2021 has started.
Since 2006, artists with outstanding Canadian albums have been awarded this prize. The prize is given to artists with artistic distinction regardless of genre, sales, or affiliation.
Besides, commendable Canadian albums, which had pre-date the prize have been added to their “hall of fame” since 2015. The nominees are usually narrowed down to two inductees, one jury vote, and one public vote.
This is unlike the past when the Slaight Family Polaris Heritage Prize was decided by a public and panel voting network that comprised music journalists and historians. The votes helped to choose two inductees from 4 decades (the 1960s-70s, 1980s, 1990s, and 2000-2005) for a total of 8 fresh entrants.
